Welcome to Jefferson Mack Metal. I am a practitioner of the lost art of Blacksmithing. I create beautiful ornamental architectural elements in mild steel, wrought iron and bronze. Items like driveway gates, garden gates, grand stair railings, handrails, guardrails, iron furniture, chandeliers, fireplace tools, curtain rods, door and cabinet hardware are all hand forged by blacksmiths in our San Francisco workshop. Custom fabrication of one of a kind items is my specialty. Superb craftsmanship is my goal and I regularly work with homeowners to create a custom design for ironwork throughout their house. The result is a consistent selection of hardware and architectural items that were obviously created by the same smithy, just as they were in the past. Back in the day, one shop was hired to design and fabricate all the metalwork on the entire estate so it matched and there was a consistency throughout the project.
I worked on one project in Tahoe several years ago and there were three buildings being built with a particular made-up timeline. The owner wanted to create an imaginary heritage on the site so he could feel like his family had been there for many years before. One building was designed as a rustic log cabin built in the 1850s, the second was designed as if it was a vacation/hunting bungalow built in the 1890s and the third was a grand mountain/lake home as if built in the 1930s. My challenge was to create the same imaginary heritage in my work. I imagined that my great grandfather had done the simple rustic work on the log cabin, my grandfather had done the metalwork on the bungalow and my father had done the work on the main house.
